Adam Simmons Creative Music Ensemble perform Space Is the Place
LATE NOTICE:
Space Is the Place, Adam Simmons Creative Music Ensemble, Sunday 17 April, Northcote Social Club, 2pm
It is short notice, but fans of Sun Ra will kick themselves if they miss this afternoon’s tribute inspired by US jazz artist and interstellar traveller, Sun Ra, delivered by a 14-piece ensemble led by Adam Simmons, endlessly creative Melbourne multi-instrumentalist.
This ensemble has performed at Ballarat’s Festival of Slow Music and the Wentworth Arts Festival, but this is its first Melbourne presentation of this project. Building upon experience with bucketrider, his Toy Band and even Sun Ra’s Arkestra, Adam Simmons brings together an interstellar collection of musicians who have played with the likes of Australian Art Orchestra, Gotye, Saskwatch, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Kamahl, Peter Brotzmann, The Snuff Puppets, Origami, Kurbist Gong Band.
This outing promises infectious grooves, loads of horns and space age costumes, so expect to have more fun at a jazz gig than you’ve had in a ‘coon’s age.
